Lyndon House Bed and Breakfast

This is a truly beautiful B&B. It is tastefully decorated, warm and inviting. I have been in some B&B's, beautiful as they may be, that I felt were a bit overdone. NOT this B&B. Very warm and comfortable is the feeling here. Just the right amount of accents to make you feel like a King and Queen but not so much that you feel you have to walk softly. The rooms a just elegant and the view is awesome. Built in 1883 this building has a rich history. Check out the website....

Lexington's first Professional Basketball team are offering "Cheap Seats" for a dollar! Family fun at its best, close, clean and cheap AND BASKETBALL. I don't know about your family but mine can not get enough basketball. Pro, college, women's, youth, toddler basketball, you name it, we watch it! There is nothing like a live game.
The Bluegrass Stallions play at the brand spanky new arena at The Kentucky Horse Park. Can you get more family friendly than the KHP? Don't think so. The smaller venue, with 5,700 chairback seats, is wonderful for the family with little ones. Lexington is gradually becoming an artist mega-hub in Kentucky. We have always had an abundance of wonderful artists but it seems that over the past ten years or so that the artist have continually surprised me with their creativity. Truly unique in every sense of the word. Just like Lexington!

Lloyd K. Hughes is no exception. His art transcends typical. His art can go on your wall, in your garden gate, on your table, EVERYWHERE. Lloyd makes some of the most beautiful pieces out of metal. Bar None...

Ok, I must admit that I have not made it to Bar None yet. But I have plenty of friends that have and I watched a live report from there so I feel confident that I can give a fair report. That plus the fact that I know the owners and they are wonderful people! The idea behind Bar None is a fresh one. It is to provide a sports bar atmosphere without all the alcohol and all the consequences of drinking. For a mother of three sport loving boys it is a wonderful concept. I have always loved the sports bar atmosphere. I love sitting around yelling at the TV screen with other screaming fans. But since I have kids I can no longer do that. I don't want to run the risk that my children could be exposed to that one fan, that had one beer too many, ruining the whole day for every one. And I don't want to teach my kids to drink either, not that I am a prude. Bar None offers a wonderful sports atmosphere with a kick. They have just about every non-alcoholic drink you can think of! They have a "Bar" but no alcohol. The design is very contemporary with rich, warm wood tones and a bar that invites you to stare. This place looks like it belongs in New York. The visual aspect of Bar None is very pleasing and would make a wonderful place to have lunch to impress your clients with this wonderful alternative. Battle of the Bluegrass Bands

Haunted Lexington

I am sure there will be tons of Halloween related events going on around Lexington in the next few days! Let me know if you have anything to share! Some of the usual events are still worth mentioning, like the Trail of Terror at Jacobson Park. This year promises to be the best yet. And don't take the little ones, it is not for the faint of heart! Cost is $14 but you can go to the site for coupons! Opens at dusk each night, closes at 10:30 on weekdays and Midnight on Friday and Saturday. Runs through the end of the month. Check out the site for more info...

TODAY, 09-15-2009!!!!! I am so excited! I know I have mentioned this many times before, but this is an awesome concert series! It's that time of year again! The Fall Meet at Keeneland is my favorite! The cool, foggy morning workouts are my families favorites. We go once a year to an early morning workout and have breakfast at the track kitchen! Yeah, good stuff and fun memories. Check it out at Keeneland.com

Coffee Times Coffee Company...

Locally owned (my fave) fresh roasted coffee beans and coffee paraphernalia! You have to visit this store while you are in town! I love their coffee and tea products. You can even order them on line so that you can get their products no matter where you live! I must admit I have been a frequent shopper of Coffee Times for about 20 years. I treat myself once a month to a pound of one of their coffees and a bag of chocolate covered espresso beans. Ahhh....yeah, ahhhh...You have to visit this place to believe it. When you have been in business before, during and after the 'coffee house fad' of the 'Friends' era, you have to be doing something right! Website to place orders...My pick? 'Lexington's Finest' blend, a local fave!

Horse Art Prints...

Ok, I must say this is one of my favorite artist! Marc Manning, local equine photographic artist, has an on-line store with some of the most beautiful equine art prints available. He has a nice series of prints from famous Kentucky horse farms. And I hear he is going to grow his store to include more prints this fall, so stay tuned! Check him out at manningimagesthestore.net.

"Lincoln's Lexington" walking tour...

The Mary Todd Lincoln House will host a guided tour of downtown Lexington. The tour includes locations relevant to Lincoln family history, Lexington History and African American history. Meet at the Mary Todd Lincoln House located at 578 West Main Street at 6 p.m. The walk will be approximately 2.5 miles. Cost is $5 for members and $7 for the general public. Space is limited and reservations are strongly recommended. Free parking is available.

Hepcat's Swing Dance...

Free dance lessons! Oh, yeah, FREE. Arthur Murray Dance Studio, 1801 Alexandria Drive in Lexington, will open up for the "Swing Dance" at 8:15PM on Saturday, September the 12th. Free lessons from 8:15 to 9PM. Dance starts at 9PM and costs $5. Check it out at Arthur Murray's site...

Kentucky Magic Dinner Theater...

Anyone with a kid knows how much they love to watch magicians on TV. Why, I do not know. I never got into it but most do. I enjoy it now though, especially if it is done well and a little different. Well, Kentucky Magic Dinner Theater is done well and is a little different. My son talked me into going because he heard about it on the radio. It was fantastic! VERY family oriented. I would suggest not bringing the little tikes and tikinis though, they can't sit for long and will distract. It was well worth the price for a family night out that was different and fun for the kids and parents. For locations and times, check out the Event website...

Lex Jam II: Unplugged...

FREE fun, the best kind! Bluegrass, Folk, Americana & Acoustic Country musicians to come together to Jam at this event which is geared more toward the acoustic artists& musicians in the area. Ringling Brothers is coming to town...

Summer just isn't over until the circus comes to town! I love Ringling Brothers, it is a kids circus for sure. I try to go every couple of years because it is just so much fun. The price for seats range from $12-$85, I always get the cheap seats! There are 6 performances starting August 28th. Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. & 7 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. & 5 p.m. One hour before show time, families can join Ringling Bros. athletic performers in getting CircusFit and learning circus skills at the FREE All Access Pre-Show.
OH, but there is more! On Friday 28th at 1:30 pm in Triangle Park a total of 5 elephants will be treated to a special rinsing by the Lexington Fire Department, to be followed by a brief elephant brunch. Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey clowns will entertain the crowd beginning at 1:15pm, providing circus fans of all ages with clown noses and giveaways...

Bourbon County Secretariat Festival

The festival will feature equine demonstrations & competitions, arts, crafts and memorabilia show, celebrity autograph signing, silent auction. There will also be Clairborne Farm tours and a variety of food & entertainment. They have also added this year a Miniature Horse Show and the Secretariat 5K Big Red Run/Walk. This Run/Walk begins at 8 a.m. rain or shine. Cash prizes to top three finishers male and female ($100, $75, $50). Gates open for festival at 9 a.m. with $5 admission per person. ($10 per carload) and kids under 12 free. Join in the fun on Saturday September the 26th at the Bourbon County Fair Grounds!

Planes, Trains and Automobiles...

Saturday August 22nd at Woodford County Park in Versailles. Miniature train rides, antique and custom car show, model train swap, RC planes and helicopters, pony rides, rock climbing and more! Jason Aldean/Miranda Lambert

The Alltech Fortnight Festival is joining forces with Applebee's Park to kick off its 16-day statewide celebration marking the final year before the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010 with platinum artists Jason Aldean and Miranda Lambert. Tickets are $34 and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m.

For those of you who have not made it out to Applebee's Park, now is your chance to see what a beautiful facility we have here in Lexington. The park is always clean, attendants are always pleasant, and we always have a wonderful time here...

Gee's Bend....

If you only see one play this year make it this one. Gee's Bend will be at the Lexington Opera House for one performance only on Sunday, September 20th at 3PM. Our country is finally getting smarter! With all the chemical and bacterial scares we have had over the years and all the hormones and junk that has been pumped into our meats, our country is finally getting smarter. We are getting back to farmers markets! Over the past few years they farmers markets have become a wonderful beginning to my weekend. Fresh LOCALLY grown fruits and vegetables, :sigh: yummy! But I have always thought that I would love to buy my meats from the same type of market. I know it would never happen due to the inability to cool the meats, but it was nice to think about it. Like the big fish markets in the coastal town, :sigh: yummy!
WELL, guess what!!!! Beef a-la-Lexington!!! NO HORMONES, NO ANTIBIOTICS, AND NO GRAINS!! AAANNNNDDDD A GREENER WAY TO EAT BEEF! NO SHIPPING!!!!!!!!!!

Dylan's Night out...

Meet Dylan, the Kentucky Ambassador for the MDA. He is putting on an event that will knock your socks off! Bingo, games, raffles, dunking booths, inflatable slide, cornhole, petting zoo, pony rides and prizes! 100% of the proceeds go to MDA and MCDonalds will be donating a portion of the days sales to the MDA!!

And if that doesn't get you out to Versailles, how 'bout meeting my favorite Kentucky Wildcat! Kenny 'Sky' Walker will be there autographing!! YAY! I know it is a school night, but can you resist one last Hoorah? For a good cause? OOOHHH, and Dylan the Ambassador, he is in elementary school! 2010 World Equestrian Games

In case you didn't know, or if you have been living on the moon for the last few years, the 2010 World Equestrian Games will be held at The Kentucky Horse Park. This town will be on fire!
So, I was looking for an event schedule, which I found on the Horse Park website, when I came across a radio show and site dedicated to the event. Kinda makes you go 'I wish I would have thought of that!' CHECK IT OUT!

Hat's Off Day--Free Admission to the Ky Horse Park

One day a year the Kentucky Horse Park opens up free to the public. And they make it a special day. My kids love the Horse Park anyway but Hat's Off day is the best! The Park goes out of their way to make it fun for kids. They schedule events through out the day that kids enjoy, like pony rides, and many other things. But the best part about it is that you have a day outside together as a family with very little effort and no hard work. This is what matters most to me. NO WORK for the family fun AND FREE family fun! Just show up, spend the day, and go home with a FREE photo of your kids on the pony rides! The old dog days of summer just get sweeter all the time...

Kentucky Cup Vaulting

The Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games are a little more than a year away, and a sneak preview is available this summer at the new indoor arena at the Kentucky Horse Park. Kentucky Cup Vaulting will take place July 30-August 2, and will run as follows: Jul 30, 8am-3:30; Jul 31, 8am-4:30pm; Aug 1 8am-6:30pm; Aug 2 10am-2pm. Doors will open one hour prior to the start of competition. Free and open to the public. Parking is $3 per day and $5 in the evening.

Ballet Under the Stars

Professional ballet will once again take center stage as Ballet Under the Stars returns to Woodland Park for its 20th year. This four-day outdoor festival gives individuals the opportunity to enjoy the performances of professional dancers in the relaxed, casual setting of the park. The evening will begin with a pre-show production of local and regional dancers ranging in age from 7—18 years. The Main Show will follow and will feature dancers from across the globe. Lawn chairs and/or blankets should be brought for seating and patrons may pack a picnic dinner or purchase concessions which are available on site. Preshow: 8 p.m. & Main Curtain: 9 p.m. $5 per person.
